Menopause
What is Menopause?
The North American Menopause Society defines menopause as "the permanent cessation of menstruation resulting from the loss of ovarian follicular activity."
Natural menopause occurs when you do not have a menstrual cycle for 12 months and there is no other cause.
When do most women begin to experience Menopause?
The average age of menopause is 51 years of age. Menopause before the age of 40 is considered premature ovarian failure.
What are the symptoms of Menopause
A primary symptom of Menopause is irregularity of your menstrual cycle. You may begin to experience shorter cycle, then you may begin to skip periods altogether.
Other symptoms may include:
- hot flashes
- vaginal problems
- bladder problems
- mood changes
- sleeping irregularities
- dyspareunia
What is a hot flash?
Hot flashes are an irritating symptom associated with Menopause. Hot flashes are sudden sensations of warmth or heat, often accompanied by a flushed sensation of the upper body and face. A hot flash can occur for 30 seconds to five minutes.
Why does a woman need hormones during and after menopause?
No matter what your age, if your female hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone) are unbalanced, you may suffer ill effects such as hot flashes, night sweats, depression, vaginal dryness, fatigue, and weight gain. In the long term, bioidentical hormone therapy protects a woman from heart disease, osteoporosis, and memory loss.
What is the best age to consider bioidentical hormone therapy?
We believe that most people should have their hormones checked by the age of 40 or earlier if they have symptoms of hormonal loss. The way to prevent illness and to optimize one's health is to take an active role in addressing healthcare risks before they become a problem.
